“International relations is an arena where politics is exercised by nations and other entities to accomplish goals and secure interests. The study of politics in that arena is a study of history: what has happened, how it came to happen with its consequences and therefore a guide to what can happen. The 20^th century so recently passed, provides vivid illustrations and experience of the exercise of politics whose consequences were monumental and painful and sometimes so decisive as to seem irreversible, or nearly so. Yet the great clashes of will that characterized the 20^th century did not originate the day before the century began but years and centuries before. What happened yesterday, is happening now and is about to happen, can be better understood through the study of history.” (Harold W. Rood)

The CSD community is an informal, growing consortium of academic institutions, scholars, practitioners, and readers joined together by a common concern for recovering the way of strategic thinking as something informed by, and anchored within, the traditional Humanities or Liberal Arts. Submission Guidelines

• CSC publishes original content with a primary focus on long-form essays and reviews of classic works relating to strategy, diplomacy, and statesmanship or the conduct of international relations. Classic works can include books, memoirs, essays, speeches; other documents; possibly even works of art.

• CSD accepts only first-publication pieces. Do not submit an article to CSD that you have submitted elsewhere. After publication, all rights revert to the author and any article may be reprinted with appropriate acknowledgement to Classics of Strategy and Diplomacy.

• CSD publishes solicited and unsolicited content, with a heavy emphasis on the former. Before submitting an essay, please read the CSD Submission Guidelines. We’ll know if you haven’t.

• We are a small part-time or volunteer staff, and CSD is our labor of love. We have a thorough review process, including review by subject matter experts. As all good things do, this takes time. Please exercise your patience with us.

• After publication, any article may be reprinted with appropriate acknowledgement to Classics of Strategy and Diplomacy.
